Founded by creatives for creatives,  Nosy Mag is a platform that highlights local arts and culture in Ottawa-Gatineau through reviews, interviews, events, exhibitions and by providing resources. We are committed to upholding and exploring Ottawa's cultural landscape and identities. Nosy Mag encourages engagement within our city by bridging the gap between creatives, audiences, and spaces. We seek to highlight innovative people and projects which might otherwise go unnoticed and foster an environment that provides a safe and expressive atmosphere for everyone, regardless of race, gender, sexuality, or economic standing.

The Team

Chloé Beaulieu

she/her/elle

Graphic & Web Designer

Chloé is a graphic designer and illustrator based in Outaouais. After discovering she has Aphantasia, she decided to ditch her corporate design style to explore her more playful, colourful and creative side. This also permits Chloé to challenge her image-free thinking. Instead of asking her if she can picture something (spoiler alert...no can do), ask her if she wants to go rock climbing. This is how all great friendships begin with her.

Marianne Brown

she/her/elle

Grant Applications Assistance & Writer

Marianne Brown is a Canadian and French artist, art writer, occasional curator, recreational life-drawer, and all-around nerd. She has a master’s degree in Contemporary Art Theory and a bachelor’s in Visual Arts and Psychology from the University of Ottawa. She's a real hedonist who loves to cook, eat, paint, look at art, and stare at bugs crawling on flowers by the Rideau river. The best compliment she ever received is that she "reminds one of what it means to be human," given the numerous and often overwhelming feelings she is constantly going through.

Yekta Çetinkaya

he/him

Writer & Contributor

Yekta Çetinkaya is an immigrant visual artist from Istanbul, Turkey. He holds a BFA from the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Ottawa where he currently works, as he is unable to leave his home away from home. A sociable introvert, he’ll talk to you endlessly about art, cinema, and music. As much as he would like to think of himself as a nomad, if it weren’t for Ottawa’s arts community, he wouldn’t leave his apartment where David Bowie’s music plays 24/7. Driven by research, his current obsessions are the history of scientific discovery, astrophysics, and perfumery.

Jessica Endress

she/her

Managing Editor

Jessica Endress is an art historian, emerging educator/arts programmer and general arts enthusiast. Born in Saint John, NB, and raised in Sechelt, BC, Jess came to Ottawa 8 years ago as an aspiring politician. Upon meeting her first PAPM student in the wild, that thought quickly gave way to a realization that history and material culture were the way to her heart. She completed her MA in Art & Architectural History at Carleton University in 2023, and was awarded SSHRC for her Major Research Paper, “Athletic Aesthetics: Prudence Heward, Girl Under a Tree and Canadian Women’s Health Ideals in the 1930’s.” When she’s not checking out new exhibitions, you can catch Jess obsessing over her perfect calico cat, Stevie, endlessly searching for her next best vintage furniture find on Facebook Marketplace, or enthusiastically shouting at her teammates from the sidelines at Ultimate or Volleyball. Whatever she’s doing, she’s doing it with spirit! Essentially, she is slowly transforming into the eccentric old cat-lady retiree she aspires to become.

Brianna Fitzgerald

she/her

Editor-in-Chief

Brianna Fitzgerald is an artist and human from Ottawa, Ontario. She holds a BFA in media art from the University of Ottawa and has been desperately looking for somewhere to put it down since 2018. She loves sparkly things and going to concerts alone. She is not afraid to look up words she doesn’t know, and is very upset when others do not do the same. Brianna was awarded the C.D. Howe Scholarship for Art and Design from the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2018, and was an artist in residence at Cow House Studios in Ireland in 2019.

Sarah Jasmine Hodgson

she/her

Project Director

Sarah Jasmine Hodgson is a Newmarket-raised wannabe cowgirl who is still convalescing from having lived in the suburbs. When she’s not rewatching Spaghetti Westerns or facing her ongoing fear of horses, she’s working on her next creative endeavour. As an emerging visual artist having exhibited in Ottawa and Montreal, Sarah creates public installations and was listed for the 2020 Scotiabank New Generation Photography Award. She actively pursues curatorial projects and frequently hits the books as a graduate student in Carleton’s Masters of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership program. Sarah’s noted for her nocturnal working habits, her ever-growing collection of questionable knick-knacks, and for notoriously twiddling her cowlick.

Alexia-Leana Kokozaki

she/her

Writer & Contributor

Alexia-Leana Kokozaki is a Canadian-Cypriot artist based in the Ottawa-Gatineau region who works at the National Gallery of Canada. She makes art, she talks art, she writes art... she does it all! Armed with a BFA and a Masters in Art History, she is infamous for her bouncy curls and her indulgence in the finer things of life once every-too-often. No, she does not need those leather boots or that donut, but she will get them anyway. When she is not doing any art-related activities, you will find her happily daydreaming and forgetting about the cup of coffee she just made herself.

Electra Millar

she/her/they

Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Electra is a marketer by day and a recreational portrait artist by… well, whenever inspiration strikes. Armed with a BComm specializing in marketing, from the University of Ottawa, the English-Greek-Canadian wishes to use their knowledge to uplift people, arts, and culture instead of constant consumption. Electra savours new experiences and freshly squeezed juice wherever she can find it. With no grand accolades (yet), she relies largely on her charm and wit to make her mark.

Emily Neufeld

she/her

Illustrator & Contributor

Emily Neufeld is a graduate from Algonquin College’s Fine Arts program, a near-graduate of uOttawa’s BFA program, and still avoids drawing the live model’s feet. Ostensibly an artist, she enjoys drawing, green-screening herself into places she shouldn’t be, experimenting in various mediums, and eating olives at vernissages. With no awards or accolades to her name, Neufeld maintains that her ability to recite obscure Monty Python skits is potentially worthy of note. She lives with two embarrassingly-named cats and is still waiting for David Duchovny to return her calls.

Rebecca Rama

she/her

Managing Editor

Rebecca Rama is an Art Nerd, because of this she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Art History and is on her way to completing her Master’s degree in Contemporary Art Theory. As an emerging artist, art critic, curator, and arts administrator (the list could go on), she is always lurking throughout downtown Ottawa trying to catch the most recent art exhibitions or attending wacky workshops. When she isn’t groveling over Art theory, she is drifting between her print and digital art practice, running through Strathcona Park, and annoying her roommates at 8:00 am by dancing in the kitchen.

Creanna Hope Wade

she/her

Writer & Contributor

Creanna Hope Wade goes by the name Hope. Hope is a writer, curator, and emerging artist originally from Prescott, Ontario. She completed her BA in Psychology with a Minor in Art History and Theory at the University of Ottawa in 2020. As long as we're getting a bit technical, Hope's large eyeballs can perceive higher frequencies of light than most people. This allows her to shoot gamma rays from her eyes, and spot wicked nice artwork from a mile away.
